Learning Support Assistant

Salary: £24,000 Full time Pro rata: £21,143

Location: Fulham, London

Closing date: Noon, 24 April 2023

Proposed start date: May 2023 and September 2023

The Hurlingham Academy is part of United Learning, a large and growing group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England. Schools within United Learning work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could.

We are looking for someone to join our Inclusion Team as a Learning Support Assistant (LSA). This is the ideal opportunity for aspiring teachers to experience life in a secondary school. Alternatively, you may be looking to build on current experience of supporting students and looking to develop your skill set as an LSA.

Our current LSAs are moving on to teacher training and we are looking for determined, dynamic and inspiring individuals to replace them. If this is you then please get in touch.

Within this role, you will develop strategies to assist the learning of students with varying Additional Educational Needs.

The five main categories are:

  • English as an Additional Language
  • Cognition and Learning
  • Speech, Language and Communication
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health
  • Physical and Sensory

Amongst other things, our LSAs provide in class support – they will co-plan directly with class teachers; create high quality resources; provide one to one interventions; run small group sessions and take responsibility for delivering programmes of support in both literacy and numeracy.

Our LSAs take part in whole school staff training and get regular input from the Speech and Language Therapist, the Borough EAL coordinator and Educational Psychologist in how to best support the needs of our students.

At The Hurlingham Academy, we play to our team’s strengths and think hard about how best to support you and the students. You will be a valued member of our team, whose contributions are respected and who is trusted to deliver in your areas of expertise. Our LSAs work hard, but we in turn are prepared to invest in their professional development. This is a place where you can develop the skills you need to challenge yourself and have a positive impact on those around you.

Like all of us at The Hurlingham Academy, you will make it your mission to bring out the best in everyone - students, staff, parents and the wider community. We are confident our school will exceed your expectations – and that you will help our students to do the same, with teaching that improves their life chances.

Details can be found on the school web site www.thehurlinghamacademy.org.uk

It is important that all applicants complete the application process. The application pack can be downloaded it from https://www.thehurlinghamacademy.org.uk/useful-links/vacancies

United Learning

We are part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

We are working hard to become a more diverse organisation – which is key to our commitment to bringing out the best in everyone. We welcome applications from everyone committed to this ethos and would particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in the Group as a whole. We always appoint on merit. We are open to discussing flexible working options.
