Job overview
You might just have found the perfect school…
We are seeking to appoint Learning Support Assistants for pupils who require additional SEND support. We have opportunities in both our Lower School, working with children aged 4 - 6 and also on our Upper School, based in KS2. Whilst the roles will have an emphasis on supporting specific pupils, you will be a member of the class team and may have the opportunity to take on a range of teaching assistant responsibilities.
The roles are part time, supporting core lessons and interventions in the mornings. The role will be for 12 - 20 hours per week, between 8:40 - 13:00, depending on your availability and the needs of the pupils' class you support. The roles are initially advertised on a one year fixed-term basis, however we would hope to extend or make the position permanent thereafter.
Norfolk House School is a leading, co-educational, preparatory school and nursery in Muswell Hill, North London, for children aged 2-11. The school takes great pride in our happy and warm environment, where each and every pupil is valued and nurtured. With small class sizes and a well-resourced school, you will be joining a supportive, forward-thinking team who are committed and passionate about educating children.
Our pupils are our most powerful advertisement - they are polite, well-mannered, and are excited and engaged learners. We have imaginative, creative, and enthusiastic children and, as a Learning Support Assistant, you will be integral in helping to make our school an inspiring setting to learn in.
You may be an experienced T.A. or someone who is new to education. We are looking for the ability to connect with children, excellent interpersonal skills and the potential to make a powerful positive impact on one particular pupil's first year of formal schooling.
We are seeking a Learning Support Assistant who will:
Be committed to supporting a SEND pupil, as well as assisting the wider class team and being part of their efforts to provide an excellent education to pupils;
Enjoy working in a busy and fast-paced environment;
Work effectively as part of a team;
Have previous experience working in a school or education setting (although this is not essential);
Be understanding and empathetic towards the needs of SEND pupils and have a desire to support them to thrive
Maintain positive communications and develop a purposeful, positive working relationship with parents and the wider school community
Be flexible, well organised and able to adapt to changing needs;
Have good verbal and written English
Hold a commitment to safeguarding and equalities
At Norfolk House School we offer:
A nurturing and all-round academic school, unique in its context
Motivated, well-rounded and excited children, who are eager to learn
Excellent professional development opportunities within the school, through Bellevue Education and the Independent Schools Association
A team of motivated, committed and talented staff
We offer staff the opportunity to join the school’s pension scheme and provide employees with access to a discount scheme, which provides exclusive offers at major UK retailers. We also provide free breakfast and lunch for all staff.
You can submit your application using the TES portal or by downloading the school application form and submitting it by email to kdavies@norfolkhouseschool.org Short-listed candidates will be requested to complete the school application form if applying through TES initially.
We will be assessing applications on a rolling basis and may invite applicants for interviews sooner and potentially appoint prior to the below advertised dates.
Closing Date: Thursday 2nd July
Interviews: Likely week of 6th July
Start date: September 2026
Norfolk House School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. References and full DBS disclosure will be undertaken before an appointment.
