At The New School, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student can thrive. We believe in embracing principles that prioritise the well-being and development of our students (and staff!). As an attachment and trauma-informed school, we are committed to social justice and fostering a safe space for growth.

We are excited to welcome applications for the position of LSA / HLTA, starting as soon as we find the right candidate. As part of our team, you will be crucial in supporting young people with SEMH difficulties inside and outside the classroom.

Join us and help to evolve a vision of young people’s agency, skills, knowledge and wellbeing. We are an equal opportunities employer and know that workplaces thrive from diversity.

What you can expect during our recruitment process:

Closing date for applications: 9am Monday 15th April

Zoom interviews: Week commencing 15th April

  • Virtual Connection: Once we shortlist your application, we'll schedule a brief 30-45-minute interview via video link to learn more about your approach and understanding of young people's agency in a school setting. It's also your chance to ask questions about our unique school’s model. This will be with our Pastoral lead and one of our Co-Headteachers.
  • Practical Trial: Successful candidates will get the opportunity to be part of our team for a paid trial day, followed by a reflection on our practices.
  • Start Date: As soon as we appoint the right candidate we’ll start working together.

Your main responsibility will be supporting students with SEMH challenges in small groups or one-on-one. By offering your expertise, empathy, and understanding, you'll create a positive learning environment where each student can flourish.

We seek a passionate individual genuinely interested in child development, learning, and behaviour. If you are someone who cares deeply about empowering young people and values their voices alongside adults, then our LSA / HLTA role is tailor-made for you!

At The New School, we foster a caring and supportive culture, both for our students and our staff. You will be part of a dedicated team that strives to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our students, offering them the chance to build essential life skills.

Join our mission: If you believe in the power of education and want to be part of an organisation committed to creating a better future for all, this is the opportunity you've been waiting for. Come join us and contribute to our vision of an inclusive and compassionate learning environment!

Don't hesitate to ask for additional information or feedback at any point in the process. At our core, recruitment is about building relationships with potential team members rather than ticking boxes. We appreciate your time and effort. Even if your application isn't successful this time, you will hear back from us.

The New School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check, satisfactory references and proof of the right to work in the UK.

We particularly welcome applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
