Coxlease School are recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant to join our Education team now!  We are looking for versatile, resilient and committed Learning Support Assistants, who can adapt their practice wherever necessary to support across all key stages. The successful candidate will work alongside the  class teacher, assisting the children with their work and supporting with pupil behaviour while establishing good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and responding to individual needs.

Coxlease School is an independent specialist day school, located near Lyndhurst, Hampshire - a beautiful setting in the heart of the New Forest.

We are proud of our excellent reputation for providing highly effective education, care, therapy, welfare and support for up to 107 pupils aged 5 to 19 years old who have difficulties regulating their emotional, social and mental health needs. They may also have other complex needs often associated with autistic spectrum conditions.

We are looking for an empathetic and creative candidate to support pupils who need additional support to develop academically, socially and emotionally. 

Indeed, we believe that all pupils have the potential to flourish and thrive, and this role will require an imaginative individual who is capable of finding ways to engage and spark the interests of pupils who are struggling to access the standard curriculum.   

As such, this exciting new role will involve supporting the education of pupils in 1:1 or very small groups to access both the academic and enrichment curriculum both in school and the wider community, and the responsibilities require the candidate to:

  • Assist pupils academically, including supporting pupils with gaps in their reading, writing and numeracy skills. 
  • Support pupils with re-integration into the standardised curriculum. 
  • Plan and deliver highly effective interventions to provide learning opportunities to for pupils to progress towards their chronological age / abilities.
  • Support the SENCO team to think of engaging and creative strategies that will support specific pupils. 
  • Support pupils during meaningful trips and activities that will aid their personal development. 
  • Encourage the development of life skills within school and the wider community. 
  • Monitor and report on pupil progress.

As part of the role, you will be fully trained in all areas of the job, with specialist training in how to deliver phonics to pupils who need support with reading. 

Required:

  • Full UK driving license
  • A good pass at GCSE in Eng/Maths

Preferential:

  • Have had experience of working with pupils with SEN, in particular those with behaviours that challenge
  • Experience of leading and delivering to small groups, evidencing excellent progress
  • Experience or desire to work with all relevant Key stages.

Communication – Communicating with our young people is vital to understand their needs.  Good teamwork and communication plays a key part in ensuring important information is relayed to other staff.

Organisation – Strong organisational skills are important to support the class teacher and young people with educational activities
