LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT for September 2026

Contract:             32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time plus 5 training days) Permanent.

Salary:                  NJC 3 £24,796 pro rata (pay award pending)

As part of our continuing commitment to ensure the success of all learners within our school community, this large secondary Academy seeks dedicated individuals to work one to one or with small groups.

You will spend most of your time in our classrooms, working 1:1 or with small groups of students with special educational needs or disabilities, although wider tasks within our Inclusion team are expected and encouraged, including the provision of basic first aid when required.  Your key role however is to support our teaching staff in the development, progress, and wellbeing of students.

Working as a Learning Support Assistant can be demanding, and you will need some key skills and personal qualities to succeed.  You will need to be able to demonstrate a real affinity for working and communicating with young people, a cheerful and positive attitude, and the resilience to bounce back after a tough day.  You will need to have a calm but firm approach, and be unflustered under pressure.  You must have achieved 5 GCSE passes at grades 4-9 including English and Maths, or equivalent.

This post is an ideal first step if you are wanting to pursue a career working with young people, including those considering a career in teaching.  Applications are also welcomed from individuals returning to the workplace or from other professions who can bring key transferable skills that can have a positive impact on our students.

The closing date for this post is Friday 28th August at 12 noon.

We welcome pre-application visits to our Academy.  Please contact our Human Resources department for an appointment.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expect all staff to share this commitment.

All posts will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure, medical and reference checks.

Applicants may be subject to a social media presence check.

Values and vision

We are exceptionally proud of our academy and our vibrant community of students, parents, staff and governors who work together to provide an engaging learning environment where our young people can flourish.

We encourage all our students to achieve excellence in all that they do.  We provide real support for growth, development and ambition, based on our core culture of "NK Cares". This is designed to help students and families break the boundaries of what we "can do" to make what we "aspire to do" a reality.

Our aim is to produce confident well rounded individuals and in addition to all the traditional academic subjects vocational subjects, performing arts and PE are all well represented in our curriculum with excellent facilities.

For our staff, our welcome is warm and you will be joining a friendly team of committed professionals who have high expectations of themselves and their students.  The Academy is committed to promoting and developing staff wellbeing and has a superb programme of professional development for every stage of your career.

Ofsted

“The behaviour of students is good. They are very polite, courteous and friendly, and there is a calm and purposeful atmosphere around the school. Students have positive attitudes to learning. They are prompt to lessons, bring the necessary equipment and settle down to work quickly.”
