Job overview

Are you interested in working for an organisation that makes a real difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted young people?

At the Royal Society for Blind Children (RSBC), we believe every blind and partially sighted young person should have the opportunity to live a life without limits. Our values of Trust, Energy, Ambition and Motivation underpin everything we do. By helping young people develop the skills and confidence they need to take control of their lives, we empower them to achieve their full potential.

We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to support students at the Dorton College Hub, based at Nescot in Epsom. You will work with young people from a range of backgrounds who have vision impairments, helping them to access their courses, develop independence and succeed in their studies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting our students through their learning programmes.

  • Promoting students' independence, confidence and learning skills.

  • Safeguarding students by understanding relevant protocols and promptly reporting concerns in line with college procedures.

  • Producing adapted learning resources and providing classroom and supported-study assistance across a range of courses.

  • Supporting students to participate fully in learning, enrichment and leisure activities.

  • Using ICT and assistive technologies to adapt resources into students' preferred formats.

  • Providing care support to our students when applicable.

About you

The ideal candidate will have:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent Level 2 qualifications), including English and Maths.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Good ICT skills, including the use of Microsoft Word and Outlook.

  • An understanding of individual learning needs and the ability to adapt support accordingly.

  • Knowledge of how a support role can promote independent learning and personal development.

Previous experience of working with vision-impaired young people is not essential, as training and support will be provided.

What we offer

In return, we offer a competitive benefits package, including:

  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

  • Perkbox benefits platform

  • Flexible working opportunities

  • 3% employer pension contribution

We are proud to be a welcoming, diverse and inclusive organisation and are a Disability Confident Employer.
