Introduction
Some young people need someone steady beside them before learning starts to feel possible again.
At our Nuneaton centre, we are looking for Learning Support Assistants to work closely with young people who need additional support to engage, build confidence and take part in practical learning. These roles are linked to learner funding and are offered as fixed-term, term-time only contracts from September to July.
This is not just about helping in a classroom. It is about noticing when a learner is struggling, helping them regulate, encouraging them back into the task, and building the kind of trust that makes progress possible. Some days will be straightforward. Some will not. What matters is that you stay calm, consistent and curious about what each young person needs.
You might be supporting learners in practical sessions, helping them follow routines, encouraging safe choices, or breaking tasks down so they feel manageable. You will work with tutors and the wider team to help learners feel settled, included and able to keep moving forward.
Key Responsibilities
Support learners in lessons, practical activities and centre routines.
Work 1:1 and with small groups to help learners stay focused, engaged and able to participate.
Build positive, consistent relationships that support confidence, attendance and progress.
Support learners with SEND, SEN and SEMH needs using calm, relationship-based approaches.
Help learners understand instructions, break tasks down and complete learning activities at an appropriate pace.
Encourage communication, teamwork, organisation and independence.
Respond calmly to behaviour or dysregulation, following agreed support plans and safeguarding procedures.
Work closely with tutors to adapt activities and remove barriers to learning.
Help embed English and Maths into everyday learning where appropriate.
Keep simple, accurate records of learner engagement, progress and concerns as directed.
Contribute to a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment.
You will have:
Experience working with young people with SEN/SEND needs, or relevant industry experience where you have supported, coached or mentored others.
A Levels, or an equivalent Level 3 qualification.
Level 2 English and Maths, or willingness to work towards these if needed.
A natural ability to build rapport with young people who may not trust education straight away.
A calm, patient and consistent approach, especially when learners are anxious, dysregulated or reluctant to engage.
An interest in practical, hands-on learning and helping young people develop confidence through doing.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Good organisation and basic record-keeping skills.
Basic IT skills, including Microsoft 365.
A willingness to learn about safeguarding, SEND, SEMH and trauma-informed practice through training and CPD.
About us
New Meaning Training offers education with a difference. We work with young people aged 15–25 who haven’t always had a straightforward experience of education. Some have been misunderstood, some have disengaged, and some are still working out where they fit. What they find here is something steadier — a place where there’s time to settle in, where expectations are clear, and where they’re not judged on what’s gone before.
We now operate across six centres in High Wycombe (our HQ), Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, Reading, Stratford-upon-Avon and Nuneaton, supporting around 320 learners in the 2026–2027 academic year. Across all centres, we offer practical programmes designed to help young people build confidence, develop skills, and discover what they might be capable of.
Our Nuneaton centre is one of the newest additions to New Meaning Training. It has a small, welcoming team and a strong focus on creating an environment where young people feel safe enough to engage, learn and make progress. For the 2026–2027 academic year, the centre offers two vocational pathways: Introduction to Retail & Hospitality and Introduction to Construction Multiskills. Both programmes are built around practical, hands-on learning and are designed to help young people develop confidence, workplace skills and independence.
Learning Support Assistants are a vital part of that experience. They help learners navigate challenges, build positive relationships, and stay connected to learning on the days when things feel difficult. Success in this role isn’t measured by how much support you give — it’s measured by how much confidence, resilience and independence you help a young person build.
Alongside our centre-based provision, we run a Transition Support programme for young people with an EHCP who are not yet ready for that environment. This sits separately from our main delivery and is designed to help them move towards their next step at a pace that works for them.
Most of the young people we work with are referred through schools, PRUs and SEND services. We don’t expect things to change overnight. We focus on helping things feel possible again — and building from there.

New Meaning Training helps young people rediscover their potential and take steps toward a future they can be proud of — through learning that leads to real opportunity. It’s education with a difference — and it works.
We are an alternative education provider for young people aged 15–25 who need a more relational, flexible and human approach than mainstream can often offer. Across our six centres — in Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Warwickshire — we support over 300 learners each year. Around 70% have an EHCP, and many are neurodivergent or experience significant anxiety. All have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
By the time they reach us, many young people feel education has failed them — or that they have failed. Our job is to show them the opposite. We work in small groups, using our Loving Care Approach (trauma‑informed practice) to create safety, trust and genuine belief in every learner.
We offer a range of practical, hands‑on “Introduction to…” courses designed to help young people learn by doing, rebuild confidence, and experience real success. Every programme blends practical skills with personal development, Functional Skills, employability and wellbeing.
Our mantra captures who we are:
Believe in yourself — we do.
