Harrogate College are recruiting for two Learning Support Assistants to join our SEND team. This role is part time 22.2 hours per week and reduced year 39 weeks per year.
We are looking for candidates with experience of working with learners with additional needs who can be flexible and adaptable and quickly establish a rapport with a wide range of young people.
Hours
- Part Time: 22.2 hours per week
- Reduced Year: 39 Weeks
- Three days per week, 8.30am - 4.30pm, term time only plus one extra week for staff development prior to the start of the academic year.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide in and out of class support to meet identified needs of students with Education, Health and Care Plans.
- Provide teachers/assessor and SEND team members with verbal and written reports on student progress towards outcomes.
- Assist with emergency evacuation plans and practices.
- Supervise vulnerable learners during unstructured times and when accessing transport.
- Assist with personal care and medical requirements as necessary.
- Support students who are less mobile or may be wheelchair users.
- Comply with and keep up to date with college policies and legislative and regulatory requirements.
Skills and Experience
- Be a strong advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion, and in particular how they relate to young people with special needs and disabilities.
- Qualified to at least L2 in Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE grade 4 or C),
- Qualification in Learning Support is desirable.
- Experience of working within a team who support students with high needs and have knowledge of how to prepare them for adulthood.
About the team
The SEND department is a friendly and busy team. We support students with special educational needs and disabilities, some of whom have Education, Health and Care Plans. We provide in class support, help to get exam access arrangements, mentoring, supervision and quiet spaces.
