Job overview

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our dedicated team at Hatton Special School. This is an excellent opportunity to play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of children with complex needs, helping them to thrive in their educational journey. You’ll work closely with a committed team, empowering our pupils to achieve their full potential.

Hatton Special School is a dynamic and inclusive primary school located in the heart of Redbridge. We provide a nurturing environment for children aged 3-11 with a range of needs, including autism, social communication challenges, down syndrome, and other learning difficulties. As we continue to grow and expand, we’re excited to be opening our new Upper School in September, offering even more opportunities for our pupils to excel as they move into the next stage of their education. This is a perfect time to join us and contribute to the development of our school!

At Hatton, we believe in celebrating each child’s unique abilities and providing them with the support they need to succeed. As a Learning Support Assistant, your role will involve working one-on-one or in small groups with children, helping them engage with learning materials, develop skills, and grow in confidence. We are continually evolving our teaching practices, and your role will be key in ensuring that every child receives the personalised attention they deserve.

Our school’s vision is to “light the fire of curiosity and enquiry in the mind of every pupil”, helping them grow, learn, and succeed. If you are passionate about inclusive education and dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of children with special educational needs, Hatton is the ideal place for you.

All Hatton staff have access to:

  • Ongoing professional development opportunities
  • A well-resourced and supportive school environment
  • Enthusiastic colleagues and supportive governors
  • Staff social events
  • Well-being support

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This includes becoming familiar with school policies immediately upon appointment and following the school's procedures in relation to safeguarding.

This role falls within the scope of the Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers. Under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, we ensure that all post-holders have the necessary level of spoken English to perform their job effectively. The specific standards are outlined in the person specification and will be applied during the recruitment process.

Offers of employment are subject to an enhanced DBS check and other relevant employment checks. References will only be requested for shortlisted candidates prior to interview.

We encourage informal visits to the school. Please telephone the school and ask for Meraph Kiflay, our HR Administrator, who will be happy to arrange this. For further information about the school, visit our website at www.hattonspecialschool.co.uk.
