About Collingwood School
Collingwood deliberately remains small to foster the friendly and caring atmosphere that is so highly valued by all. We are proud that our family environment and excellent pupil: teacher ratio enables the individual strengths and talents of every child to be nurtured and developed by our dedicated professionals and supportive peer group community.
We offer an exciting range of academic subjects at all stages of school life, which are additionally complemented by a very wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities. Currently we have over 17 extra activities taking place every week including chess, football and music. We also offer a supervised after school aftercare session each night from 3.30 to 6.30 for all children and a pre-school breakfast club.
Our school has a first-class academic record and we are justifiably proud of our pupil’s outstanding successes in examinations for entry into the local independent and grammar school. There are no formal entry examinations into either the Pre-Prep or Prep Departments since we choose to provide a non-selective environment where all skills and talents can be valued. As part of our entrance procedure we like to invite prospective pupils to join us for a day in their appropriate class, during which subject teachers assess the student unobtrusively to determine his/her academic level and any particular educational needs.
At Collingwood we seek to constantly reinforce an ethos of co-operation where all our pupils develop in confidence and a sense of self-worth. Each child is supported and challenged by committed teachers, to achieve their best educationally, while small class sizes allow the personality and strengths of every young person to shine, and all contribute to the leaning environment in their own way. In line with our philosophy of educating for life, we emphasise the importance of consideration for others, good manners and the ability for positive self-development.
Collingwood offers a very secure and highly stimulating environment, underpinning the growing needs of each child from the first day in Reception to the more independent and inquisitive minds of Year 6. Consideration for others, courtesy and positive self-development are our foundation stones and our dedicated and experienced teachers not only aim, but succeed, in bringing out the best in every child in our care.
