Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which is rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.

Working as an LSA in our study support team, you will be providing support to students with special requirements in the College, both in class and in the department. Some experience working with students aged 16-19, particularly those with specific learning difficulties and disabilities, is desirable but not essential. Additionally, you must be physically fit to undertake manual handling and to provide personal care to students with disabilities if required. Most important is empathy with young people and a genuine desire to help them reach their potential.

Values and vision

'Counting in Ones' is our motto and is the key principle which guides everything we do. Value added is good and the large majority of our students progress to higher education, many to Russell Group universities. A large number of our students each year, usually around fifty, are able to secure places at the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Pastoral support is well resourced and students also benefit from an unusual range of music, sporting and other enrichment opportunities.

Ofsted

“Capacity to improve is outstanding. The outstanding performance identified at the last inspection has been maintained and aspects improved. Leadership and management are excellent and staff at all levels share a commitment to achieving the best for individual students. Managers and teachers are reflective and self-critical. Quality assurance procedures are highly effective in promoting continuous improvement.”
