Description The Director of Schools invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced and highly motivated people for the position of Learning Support Coordinator within the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. The Learning Support Coordinator will have responsibility for the management of special needs focus programs, inclusive of gifted and talented, assistance to teachers with curriculum differentiation, supervision of support personnel as appropriate; and be able to assist schools in their professional development needs.
Position Requirements • A relevant understanding of the philosophy of Catholic Education.
• Has completed or agrees to complete the requirements of the Diocesan Faith Education Accreditation Policy.
• Coordinate the identification of students with special educational needs;
• Working collaboratively with the principal, class teachers, parents and students to develop appropriate assessment strategies, identify resources and implement effective strategies to create learning and social opportunities for students with special education needs;
• Liaising with the relevant schools particularly in relation to transition periods;
• Working collaboratively with and overseeing the work of other learning support personnel;
• Facilitating Referral and Assessment procedures with Catholic Schools Office Student Support Staff after consultation with the Principal, Teachers and parents.
• Liaising with outside agencies after consultation with the Principal, Teachers and parents.
• Contributing to the preparation of documentation required under legislation in line with privacy and confidentiality obligations, for example, student files;
• Coordinate the preparation of funding submissions;
• Managing the Schools Special Education resources.
• Contributing to the provision of staff professional development and parent education programs.
Essential Criteria • Applicants will need to comply with the Accreditation to Work Teach and Lead - formerly the Faith Education Accreditation (FEA) Policy 2012 and will need to work towards Accreditation at Category D – Accreditation to Teach Religion.
• Current NESA and Working With Children number must be recorded on application.
• Be appropriately qualified as a four year trained secondary teacher.
• Evidence of completion of Anaphylaxis training certificate must be supplied. (https://etraining.allergy.org.au/login/index.php) Note: To start or return to working as a teacher in a NSW school, you must be accredited by NESA.

St Francis Xavier’s College is a mixed, non-selective, Roman Catholic, independent secondary school in New South Wales, serving students from the age of 11-18. The secondary school is situated in Hamilton, and has over 1,000 students on record.

St Francis Xavier’s College was founded in 1985 as a school to serve Catholic students in the local area.
