Rainbow International School, Kampala, is a 2 - to 18-year co-educational day and boarding school serving a mixture of expatriate and Ugandan families based in Kampala, wider Uganda and the East African region. 

We seek a qualified, enthusiastic and motivated individual for the post of Learning Support Teacher to work in the Secondary Learning Support department that assists children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). We seek a teacher committed to achieving high academic standards and creating a stimulating and positive classroom ethos that is child-centred and success-orientated. Must have at least three (3) years’ work experience after graduating. The appointment will be for one academic year. The benefits offered to the successful candidate will be local hire benefits. 

Our SEN students in Secondary have gaps in reading, mathematics, science & written expression, as well as difficulties with retention of information. Others have challenges in information processing, social/interpersonal/behavioural, and fine motor skills. Therefore, a background in Special Needs Education and experience of teaching SEN children are both essential.  

Qualifications and experience:

Candidates must have:

1)     Minimum of three years of experience working as a Learning Support/SEN Teacher after completion of your Bachelor’s degree in Special Needs Education

2)     or a Diploma in Special Needs Education, together with a Bachelor of Education degree

3)     or a Bachelor of Education degree together with a Postgraduate Diploma in Special Needs Education

*Special Needs courses/trainings attended are an added advantage.

Please apply with a detailed CV (with a recent passport photo at the top) and a letter of application stating your strengths and experiences in working one-on-one with children/students. Please include the names and contact details of 3 work related referees (former Headteachers or line managers) in your CV. Attach a copy of your Uganda National ID card and academic documents. Please DO NOT attach ID documents, academic documents, certificates, transcripts or recommendation letters at this stage.
