We are looking to appoint a highly-skilled Learning Support Teacher with experience in supporting students with a range of needs to meet their potential across the curriculum.

The successful candidate must:  

  •  Be currently based in the wider Lisbon area (mandatory); 
  •  Have a proven track record of outstanding practice; 
  • Have experience in the English National Curriculum; 
  • Have a growth-mindset looking to continually improve; 
  • Be able to engage, motivate and support children, staff and parents; 
  • Be a reflective, flexible practitioner with the ability to think creatively and take risks; 
  • Have experience of team-teaching to support and improve the practice of colleagues and the learning experience of students; 
  • Be skilled at supporting teachers with planning for behaviour; 
  • Have experience of working with students with social, emotional and behavioural needs; 
  • Have a strong learning-focused philosophy; 
  • Support the vision, ethos and policies of the school; 
  • Be able to work in teams to create and maintain an effective learning environment and a code of behaviour which promotes and secures good teaching, effective learning and enables all students to achieve their full potential; 
  • Be able to work in teams to create and maintain an effective partnership with parents and staff to support and improve students’ achievement and personal development; 
  • Be committed to own professional development to enhance capacity to deal with the complexity of the role; 
  • Have an advanced ability to use ICT to support and enhance learning within the classroom. A working knowledge of Google Apps and the confidence to work with iPads and other 1-to-1 technology would be an advantage.

It is desirable that the successful candidate: 

  • Is able to work in Portuguese as well as English 
  • Is able to support students to access the Maths curriculum 
  • Has experience working with students with dyscalculia


We will provide:

St. Julian’s School is a private co-educational not-for-profit school founded in 1932 with a strong record of academic achievement and extra-curricular activity. Located on a beautiful site of 7.6 hectares in Carcavelos, between central Lisbon and Cascais, St. Julian’s has three sections: Primary, Bilingual and Secondary.

From Nursery (age 3+) to Year 11 (age 16+) St. Julian’s broadly follows the National Curriculum for England. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) embraces the two years of Nursery and Reception, ages three to five. Thereafter students progress through the Key Stages of the curriculum.

The Secondary section strives to nurture in each student a sense of self-confidence and happiness; students are encouraged to speak up for themselves and relationships between teachers and students are very positive, engaging and stimulating. At the end of Key Stage 4, students take a series of public examinations (GCSE and IGCSEs).

After age 16, St. Julian’s prepares students for university by offering courses leading to the International Baccalaureate Diploma. St. Julian’s consistently achieves strong results.
