About the College 

Founded in 1843, Marlborough College offers boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 18 a contemporary education within a socially-minded, inclusive and spiritual environment. Situated at the western end of the Wiltshire market town of Marlborough, the College occupies 200 acres of beautiful and significant landscape. The Marlborough Mound, a Neolithic Monument dating back to 2,400 BC, lies at the heart of an historic campus, which blends stunning architecture with inspirational facilities. 

The College is an Anglican Foundation, incorporated by Royal Charter, and a registered educational charity. The community comprises 1011pupils (almost all of whom are full boarders), over 150 teaching staff, and more than 450 support staff. There are 16 boarding houses, substantial teaching and ancillary buildings, and extensive grounds and playing fields. 

The life of the College is a full one, with lessons taking place Monday to Saturday and co-curricular activities seven days per week. Each member of the teaching staff is required to play an active part in the co-curricular life of the College and to serve as a boarding house tutor. 

About the Department 

The Learning Support Department has up to 100 pupils who have weekly one-to-one lessons and the Department also teaches study skills courses to groups of pupils. We also offer informal support on study skills and academic organisation to pupils across the school. The Department provides materials and advice to teaching staff and tutors to assist them in their work with pupils in class and in boarding houses. 

All pupils entering the College take diagnostic language assessments. Information on pupils with learning difficulties is available to teaching staff on the College internal database. Some pupils require support throughout their time at the College; others may need short-term help with specific aspects of study for relatively short periods. 

The successful applicant will be expected to plan and deliver study skills programmes to individual pupils and groups across the age range. They will also be expected to liaise with subject teachers, contribute to in-service training and carry out departmental administrative duties. Teachers in the Department are also expected to carry out assessments of pupils’ learning needs and to contribute to assessment and record-keeping for access arrangements in exams. 

About the role 

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and well qualified graduate capable of providing learning support in both the Lower School and the Sixth Form. Flexibility, positivity and a willingness to support the Head of Department in delivering sector-leading provision will be essential attributes of the successful candidate. In addition, they will have a recognised qualification in dyslexia such as an OCR Level 5 qualification in SpLD (or equivalent) with individual specialist assessment. A Level 7 qualification and current Assessment Practicing Certificate, would be an advantage, as would a good working knowledge of JCQ regulations for access arrangements.

It has its own generous pay scale, and salaries are set according to qualifications and experience Teaching staff receive a Mac Book, and an iPad to further support their role. Accommodation is not offered as part of this position.
