Description The Learning Support Teacher will have responsibility for supporting the Learning Support Coordinator in the management of special needs focus programs, inclusive of gifted and talented, assistance to teachers with curriculum differentiation, supervision of support personnel as appropriate Learning Support teaching and duties as directed by the School Principal.
Position Requirements • A relevant understanding of the philosophy of Catholic Education
• The Learning Support Teacher works under the direction of the Learning Support Coordinator
• Assisting with the initial identification of students with special educational needs
• Working collaboratively with the Principal, Learning Support Coordinator, class teachers, parents and students to develop appropriate assessment strategies, identify resources and implement effective strategies to create learning and social opportunities for students with special education needs
• Collaboratively designing, implementing, modifying and evaluating individual Education Programs (IEPs) with class teachers and other relevant people
• Contributing to the preparation of documentation required under legislation in line with privacy and confidentiality obligations, for example student files
• Demonstrated ability to work in main stream classrooms to support learning outcomes for students with disability
• Ability to build capacity in teaching staff to integrate adjustments to their teaching practice and lesson planning
• Ability to successfully implement and evaluate curriculum initiatives in accordance with curriculum and standards framework
• Demonstrated capacity to reflect critically upon professional practice and commitment to ongoing professional learning
• Commitment and capacity to actively contribute to a broad range of school activities, including the Year 12 Retreat Program, as a member of the school team
• High level of communication and interpersonal skills when relating to students, parents and other teachers
Essential Criteria The applicant should:
• Demonstrated teaching experience as a Learning Support Teacher.
• applicants will need to comply with the Accreditation to Work Teach and Lead – formerly the Faith Education Accreditation (FEA) Policy 2012 and will need to work towards Accreditation at Category D – Accreditation to Teach Religion
• Current NESA and Working With Children number must be recorded on application
• Be appropriately qualified as a four year trained secondary teacher
• Evidence of completion of Anaphylaxis training certificate must be supplied (https://etraining.allergy.org.au/login/index.php) Note: to start or return to working as a teacher in a NSW school, you must be accredited by NESA

St Francis Xavier’s College is a mixed, non-selective, Roman Catholic, independent secondary school in New South Wales, serving students from the age of 11-18. The secondary school is situated in Hamilton, and has over 1,000 students on record.

St Francis Xavier’s College was founded in 1985 as a school to serve Catholic students in the local area. The school is currently being updated so that it can help fully cater for the needs of students with disabilities.
