Birkdale is a happy and thriving community. Education is provided for boys from 4 through to 18 years and for girls currently from 4-8 years and 16-18 years in the Sixth Form.
Known for its high academic standards, with virtually all Sixth Form leavers going on to university, the school provides a wide range of out of school activities to educate the whole person. An exceptionally high level of pastoral care together with a strong Christian ethos underpins daily life.
Life at Birkdale is full of opportunity through an enormous range of extra-curriclar activities including sport, music, drama, academic societies and outdoor pursuits.
Set in pleasant surroundings 1.5 miles from the city centre and 4 miles from the Peak District National Park, Birkdale attracts pupils from an area bounded by Wakefield, Rotherham, Retford and Matlock. Transport, shared with a nearby girls’ school, is available from outlying areas.
Professionally trained staff are available to give specialised help to those with special needs. Scholarships (academic, music and sport) are available at 11 and 16, up to 25% of fees, and other bursaries and discounts may be offered up to 100% of fees.
