ABOUT THE ROLE
St Andrews International School Bangkok prides itself on the fact that our teachers know their children very well. As a truly inclusive international school, our community reflects a wide range of needs. Some children in Early Years and Primary have limited English language exposure and require additional support to access the UK curriculum.
The Learning Support Teacher plays a key role in ensuring that all students can access learning in a meaningful and inclusive way. The postholder assesses students’ areas of need and develops targeted programmes to support academic, social and emotional development.
Working alongside class teachers, the Learning Support Teacher plans lessons in parallel with classroom provision, reinforcing and extending in-class learning. This targeted support enables students to participate fully in school life.
The Learning Support Teacher is a specialist within the wider Learning Support team and reports to the Director of Whole School Learning Support and the Primary Learning Support Coordinators.
Purpose of the Post
• Work in conjunction with the Primary Learning Support Coordinators to ensure appropriate provision for all students on the Primary Learning Support register
• Deliver lessons responsive to students with a range of learning challenges, including ADHD, Dyslexia and Dysgraphia
• Report to the relevant Learning Support Coordinator, Director of Whole School Learning Support and Heads of Phase
General Responsibilities
• Employ appropriate teaching strategies aligned to the age, stage, aptitude and ability of students
• Keep up to date with current educational practice and theory
• Deliver literacy, numeracy and phonics interventions tailored to identified needs
• Support classroom teachers through collaborative planning and team-teaching approaches
• Implement the school’s assessment and reporting procedures
• Participate in and contribute to professional development
• Maintain accurate and effective record-keeping in line with school policy
• Create a welcoming and stimulating learning environment that encourages active participation
• Meet with parents to discuss progress and provide written reports in accordance with school policy
• Lead a small team of Learning Support Assistants to ensure students’ needs are met and they can access the curriculum fully
• Act as an ambassador for the school in the wider local and global community
The Whole School Community and Environment
• Contribute to a welcoming and stimulating environment that encourages students to participate actively
• Provide differentiated learning experiences to develop thoughtful, responsive and independent learners
• Participate in one extracurricular activity per week
• Attend residential trips as directed by the Learning Support Coordinator
• Supervise students as assigned
• Support promotional activities associated with the advancement of the school
• Promote the House system and organise one House activity per year
Additional Responsibilities
• Observe and assess students referred to the Learning Support team
• Plan, organise and implement targeted programmes during in-class support, literacy or maths intervention, and small group or one-to-one sessions
• Attend planning meetings and provide feedback to class teachers on student progress
• Liaise effectively with parents and teachers to ensure clarity of targets
• Prepare, implement, monitor and review Individual Learning and Health Plans (ILHPs) in collaboration with specialists and class teachers
• Act as key worker for students assigned by the Primary Learning Support Coordinator
All teachers are expected to contribute positively to the extracurricular programme by offering an activity that supports or extends learning or reflects another area of interest.
St Andrews has a strong reputation for supporting students with special educational needs. Experience teaching children with ADHD, mild autism, dyslexia and related needs would be advantageous.
