Learning Support Tutor
We are looking for an experienced, motivated person to deliver specialist support to students at Selby College. The students may have additional needs arising because of a learning difficulty and/or disability. They may also have literacy, numeracy or language support requirements on their main programme.
The Role
The key areas of responsibility are:
- To be able to deliver a combination of support in the following areas;
- Specialist support for students with a learning difficulty and/or disability
- Numeracy (including Functional Skills)
- Literacy (including Functional Skills)
- English language support for students who have EAL needs (English as an Additional Language)
- To deliver specialist support on a one-to-one basis, or with small groups, or in class with a specific individual or small group of students
- To devise and deliver appropriate and stimulating individual learning programmes to meet the needs of the students in question, including those with a learning difficulty and/or disability
- To keep detailed and accurate records of the work undertaken in line with college requirements
- Monitor, review and evaluate the support provided
The role is based in the Additional Learning Support team and reports to the ALS Manager.
The Person
• The successful candidate will have, or be working towards, a teaching qualification. It is a requirement to have a level 2 in English and Maths and ideally, we would want a level 5 qualification in numeracy.
• Experience of delivering Numeracy and Literacy and working with students in need of support is a must, as is the ability to keep detailed records.
• The successful candidate will be able to work unsupervised, providing innovative delivery of basic skills. They will be organised and have good IT skills. Experience of Google classroom will be an advantage.
• It goes without saying that the role needs an excellent communicator, but it is also a requirement to have empathy and excellent people skills.
Terms and Conditions:
This is a term time role – 36 weeks per year, worked between 1st September and 31st August.
Hours are 18.5, worked Monday – Friday (not necessarily whole days)
The FTE salary is £19,867 giving an actual salary of £7925
