Job overview

We are seeking committed, enthusiastic and talented individuals to join our Learning Support Department.

The Learning Support Department is well-established at the College and is strategically located within a welcoming, open-learning environment in the heart of the College to allow the easiest access for students. The accommodation is well resourced and equipped.

The team of Learning Support Tutors provides 1:1 support for individual students, as well as support for individual students and small groups within the classroom. Learning Support is a strong, hard-working department with a student-centred ethos, and makes good use of a range of staff talents, experience and knowledge. Their vision is to promote the inclusion of all students, helping them overcome barriers to learning, which might include physical, emotional and learning difficulties, as well as encouraging them to become independent learners.

The Department prides itself on having a real team ethic and a very positive attitude towards continual professional development. The Learning Support Tutors are an incredibly dedicated team and bring real vitality to all aspects of their work. We have no doubt that the successful candidate will benefit from the team’s energy and desire to build upon the very successful work they have already done.

The role is focused on supporting students through one to one, group work and in class support. The ability to work well with and relate well to students is of high importance. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and a good standard of education.

You will need to be responsive to changing student demands, both on a day-to-day basis and in terms of longer term developments. The ability to relate well to young people is, therefore, important along with a flexible approach.

College Overview

Scarborough Sixth Form College is an open-access College, which provides general education primarily for 16-19 year olds in the area. The majority of our 1000+ students are full-time, and follow Advanced (level 3) courses from which most progress onto Higher Education.  The College has developed a very successful vocationally-related provision in a range of BTEC Nationals and we also offer a one-year Level 2 programme (our “Progression Year”) consisting of GCSEs in Maths, English and Science plus a range of BTEC Firsts.  Achievement at the College is high, and above national benchmarks, with outstanding positive value-added overall.  The College had an Inspection in December 2019 and was confirmed as a Good provider.

The College provides a pleasant environment in which to work, being set in attractive grounds on the edge of town. College campus facilities have been enhanced by almost £5 million investment. Scarborough itself offers an attractive coastline and beaches and is situated on the edge of the North York Moors, within easy reach of the City of York.
