Job overview

We are looking for a learning support specialist tutor to join our team based in Walthamstow, East London. The successful candidate will have maths and English at GCSE grade “C” or “4” or above (or level 2). They must also be well versed in either Music Production/Performance, Media, Gaming, Animation, Art and Design, Performing Arts, or Events Management.


Key tasks

●Support learners to attend and be punctual and promote independent learning

●Support learners with any barriers to their learning, helping them with comprehension of instructions and work briefs

●Encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning and promoting development of self- esteem

●Support learners to proofread written work and revise spelling, punctuation and grammar

●Support the lead tutor to ensure learners achieve the qualifications and have an exciting, fully rounded programme of study that enables them to progress

●Feed in to the support plans to ensure learner progress is supported and recorded

●Record academic progress and reinforce positive behaviour

●Ensure learners are retained, achieve their qualifications and progress

●To collaborate with the lead tutor in order to refine lesson plans to suit the needs and learning styles of the learners with additional needs

●To plan, develop, and deliver personalised learning resources tailored to learners’ needs

●To invigilate exams according to learners’ access arrangement needs

●To set weekly and monthly targets for the learner to feed into their ILP

●Parent/ Carer communication - Half termly report

●Notes typed up on learners progress towards targets

●Communication with tutor regarding progress and planning and set new targets

●To assist young people who are wheelchair users e.g. transition -accessing the community /Supporting wheelchair users to access toileting facilities


Desired qualities

●Proven track record of supporting learners with additional learning needs

●Conscientious team player with a positive outlook and a keen eye for detail

●The ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and well being young people

●Proficient in English and maths

●Vocational proficiency in Music, Media, Gaming, Animation, Art and Design, Performing Arts, Event or English and Maths

Salary and days of work

●We are recruiting full time roles, 5 days a week - term time only (36 weeks a year)

●35 hours per week

●Salary is £17,854 (pro-rata if you start later in theyear)

●Start Date ASAP

●This is a fixed term position until 5th July 2024
