Job overview

Could you lead Greig City Academy’s Learning Support Unit? We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified individual with experience of working with challenging students to become the Academy’s Learning Support Unit (LSU) Manager. This post is open to teachers and non-teachers. Applications are also welcome from graduates with relevant skills, knowledge and experience. You will have responsibility for managing the day to day running of the LSU, supporting the teaching and learning of students whose behaviour is preventing them from accessing the curriculum. You will be joining the Learning Plus Faculty and as part of this professional and dedicated team you will be instrumental in inspiring and motivating our students. Our forward thinking department takes a collaborative approach to departmental development and you will play a key role in continuing to raise standards.

The Learning Plus Faculty includes Special Educational Needs, Language and Literacy, English as an Additional Language and Well-being. It comprises teaching staff, a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, a Behaviour Management Coordinator, Learning and Behaviour Mentors and Learning Support Assistants.

The school boasts a really positive and supportive relationship between managers and staff and between colleagues, and between staff and pupils. Paul Sutton, our Principal, encourages teachers to have an impact beyond their subject and he is always available and happy to discuss ideas with you as to how this can be achieved. We have an impressive range of extra-curricular activities and all our staff are involved in running at least one. Ours is a caring and well-ordered environment in which all students can enjoy learning, develop enquiring minds and acquire the skills and knowledge they need for a changing world. Every day we see the results of our efforts in students who work responsibly and with consideration for others – they are the best ambassadors for the school.

Your personal development is important to us. You will be able to apply for one of our Learning Awards up to the annual value of £2,400, which could enable you to develop particular talents or skills. This is in addition to the school’s CPD programme. Other benefits include cycle to work and childcare voucher schemes.

GCA has a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and has safer recruitment procedures in place for the selection of staff.

Please download the application form via the TES website or the school’s website and email your completed application to voxley@greigcityacademy.co.uk. Interested candidates are invited to visit the school before making an application.

The closing date for receiving completed application forms is 3pm on Friday 27th January 2017 and interviews will be held on Friday 3rd February.

Please note that we reserve the right to close or extend the deadline for this position depending on application numbers, therefore we would urge candidates to submit an application at their earliest opportunity.
