Are you an experienced Further Education Business teacher looking for your next challenge? This is the opportunity for you!

You will be working in a dynamic, values led organisation that has the student at the centre of what we do. This role will be ideal for applicants with experience of teaching Business studies up to at least level 3.

This is a varied role where you will teach students who are highly committed and determined to achieve their ambitions. We offer a range of qualifications from Level 1 to Level 6 including BTECs, T levels and HND to support students to achieve their career goals.

You will have experience of delivering high quality lessons using a variety of teaching strategies, communicating with parents/carers on learner progress, engaging in the IV process, working closely with maths and English specialists and be familiar with management systems to track learners’ progress and progression (eg ProMonitor).

To be successful in meeting the challenges involved with the role you must have a can do attitude and work together as part of the team to get results. You must be able to demonstrate a solution-focused approach.

About the Business Department

The Business department attract highly committed and determined students who have a range of ambitions. We offer a range of qualifications from Level 1 to Level 6, including BTEC’s, T Levels and Higher Education to support students to reach their career goals. We have a strong network of employers who work with the College to provide excellent work experience placements to prepare our students to become outstanding ambassadors in industry. 

Our facilities

The college has recently invested in state of the art facilities that allow students to develop their skills in an environment that exceeds many industry settings, with high specification computer classrooms and collaborative spaces, with access to the most up to date digital equipment and resources. This has allowed teaching, learning and assessment to replicate the situations found in a range of business related roles across a variety of sector.

What will the role involve?

Main aspects are:

  • Supporting students to achieve their fullest academic potential
  • Developing and delivering their best ability in learning, teaching and assessment
  • Presenting constructive feedback and suggesting strategies for students’ improvement of performance and success
  • Providing progression outcomes to management in order to continuously improve teaching and learning
  • Monitoring and managing student attendance
  • To assist in the implementation of pastoral and welfare systems for students
  • To act as a Personal Tutor when necessary by providing advice and guidance
  • Undertake course co-ordination as required

What you will need to succeed

  • GCSE maths and English
  • Degree in Business or Business related subject
  • A recognised secondary or post 16 teaching qualification eg PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS

Wigan and Leigh College is a further education college in Wigan, Greater Manchester, which has been providing education and training locally for more than 150 years. It employs around 1,000 staff and has a student roll of about 17,000. Further education students can choose the A-level professional honours programme or vocational qualifications such as BTECs. An expanding higher education portfolio of foundation degrees, top-up degrees, higher nationals and certificates is available to adult students of all ages, both full-time and part-time. 

Wigan and Leigh College operates from several sites across the borough: the Parson’s Walk Centre, School for the Arts and Pagefield Centre are in Wigan, close to the town centre. The Image Centre and Leigh College are close to the town centre of Leigh.
