Job overview

The Department of Economics at Manchester (https://www.socialsciences.manchester.ac.uk/economics/) wishes to appoint two Lecturers (Teaching & Scholarship) from September 2021.

We wish to appoint innovative, engaging and dynamic colleagues who will be able to enhance the quality of our teaching and improve the student experience at Manchester. The candidates will deliver small class teaching for large, compulsory microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematics and statistics course units and will contribute to the course design including the delivery of formative and summative assessment for students on these units.

In addition to course specific engagement the candidates will also develop economic resources relating to generic study and employability skills (with a particular focus on written and verbal communication skills) and will be involved in other administrative and pastoral duties.

Note: This is not a traditional lecturer position and the position holders will focus on delivering small group tutorial/class/workshop teaching in support of large courses. Career progression is therefore anticipated to be attainable through pedagogical innovation and excellence as well as increased responsibility for the delivery of our programmes’ learning outcomes. We therefore also welcome excellent candidates from the college and school sector to apply to this position.

The application form (Step 6) will ask candidates to attach one document (called CV). This document should include the following (max size 1 MB):

  • An up-to-date CV,
  • a 1 page summary of recent teaching evaluations,
  • a 250 word summary of a class you taught or a resource you created to support students in the development of written and verbal communication skills,
  • a 250 word summary on what you see as the most important contribution teaching staff can make to 1st year undergraduate economics students’ learning as they transition from College/School to University.

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments will be made on merit.

Applications have to be submitted via: https://www.jobs.manchester.ac.uk/displayjob.aspx?jobid=19979

We are unable to respond to enquiries, accept CVs or applications from Recruitment Agencies.
