Job overview

Full time or fractional

We are one of the highest performing colleges nationally on all courses at all levels, rated Ofsted ‘Outstanding’.

The college works very closely with the Cornwall Manufacturing Group in developing the future workforce and upskilling existing employees.

Exciting future opportunities exist to work closely with the new engineering sectors in Cornwall in Offshore Wind Technology, Lithium Extraction and Space Technology.

The Engineering department is based in the newly opened state-of-the-art Southwest Institute of Technology building. Included within is a very large open workshop with a significant range of industry standard equipment, a specific welding facility, home for the Welding Institute, CAD studios, Electronics room and general teaching rooms.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed lecturer with the ability to inspire students and maintain excellent working relationships in a very successful Engineering team. A willingness to support students pastorally is essential, as is being adaptable and flexible in a dynamic working environment.

Fractional contract options are available which would allow the opportunity to combine a new lecturing role whilst continuing employment in industry. There may also be a one off signing bonus of £5,000 to the successful candidate.

The ideal candidate should work with confidence with a wide variety of ability levels, be a committed team member and project an enthusiasm for their subject. The successful applicant will be expected to provide high quality teaching on education programmes, and to contribute to providing an outstanding learning experience for our students.

We aim to find a full time lecturer to join our successful team to teach a variety of engineering and manufacturing subjects that may include CAD, CAM, fabrication, design or engineering maths primarily at L3 (with the possibly of L4/5 for suitably qualified applicants with higher degrees).

Applicants should hold a degree or similar professional qualification in engineering, relevant technology or product design and a recognised teaching qualification or be willing to work towards one. As well as teaching, the successful candidate is likely to have responsibility for a tutor group. A commitment to curriculum development and a flexible approach to teaching and learning are required.

*Salary as advertised is based on a qualified lecturer. Non-qualified applicants will be considered but will be paid on a non-qualified lecturer scale.

We offer a generous package with benefits including 40 days annual leave plus bank holidays and College closure days, teacher pension scheme, relocation package, free on-site parking and a variety of on-site benefits and discounts.

Closing date: Noon, Friday 14 April 2023.

Curriculum Vitae are not accepted, Application Forms only.

Successful candidates will be notified within four weeks of the closing date
