Job overview

We are looking for a Lecturer in Fabrication and Welding to teach to students on different level programmes including full time students and apprentices, ensuring that the students/apprentices receive the highest quality teaching and achieve their outcomes.

This is a permanent, full time position.

This role would be suitable for candidates currently working in a welding environment but could also suit recently qualified students within the welding and fabrication discipline who have industrial experience.

The Role

  • Planning and delivering/teaching and assessing on a variety of courses within engineering particularly around the subject of welding and fabrication. 
  • Ensuring schemes of work are produced to meet the requirement of the course and consistent assessment procedures are continually maintained
  • Preparation of assignments, internal test and examination papers
  • Monitor, review and evaluate student progress. 
  • Keep accurate records of students, student reviews, assessments and resource use and give feedback to employers/parents as required
  • Participate in standardisation and verification/moderation as required. 
  • If a course leader, you will be responsible for the accuracy of exam entries/registrations for the course/subject and liaison with examinations department, other team members and external exam entries/registration awarding bodies as appropriate
  • Keep up to date with any awarding body changes to specifications or assessment requirements – ensure changes are reflected in delivery
  • Ensure good student behaviour, attendance and punctuality in all academic situations and report indiscipline as necessary to the Programme Leader
  • Embed maths, English, Employability, Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety and ICT within teaching and learning


The Person

  • A level 3 qualification in fabrication and welding is essential.  You will ideally hold a degree in an Engineering related subject or an equivalent professional qualification
  • You will hold a teaching qualification or be willing to work towards one.  Recent successful experience of teaching is desirable.
  • Recent industrial experience in Fabrication and Welding is essential, candidates with experience in plasma cutting and maintenance engineering will have a distinct advantage.
  • You will have the commitment and drive to provide excellent service to students.
  • You should be highly organised, reliable and self-motivated.


Terms and Conditions

  • Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum
  • Holidays: 37 days per annum plus statutory bank holidays
  • Salary:  £29,432 to £34,259, depending on qualifications and experience

A market forces payment may be made for a suitable candidate
