The Foundation Learning department at Brockenhurst College has an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer in Foundation Studies to join their dedicated and enthusiastic team based in the new Foundation Hub building on a part time 0.4FTE, permanent basis. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £31,000 to £41,217.00 pro rata per annum DOE. (Unqualified teachers £24,547 to £31,000 pro rata per annum DOE.) The role will include teaching Health and Social Care, generic employability and independence skills and providing pastoral support to learners with EHCPs working at Entry to Level 1.

About the role:

As the Lecturer in Foundation Studies, you will continually improve the learning experience and achievement of students through effective teaching.


Responsibilities as our Lecturer in Foundation Studies will include:

  • Teach on courses as agreed with the Head of Curriculum.
  • Take on the responsibilities of a Foundation Personal tutor, when required.
  •   Prepare and mark student work, monitor progress towards individual targets, keep records and provide timely reports/reviews/EHCP feedback to students, parents, employers and College managers, as appropriate.
  •  Work closely with other colleagues to respond to the needs of students.
  •  Contribute to the design, delivery and future planning and development of the curriculum.
  •  Pay due attention to the principles of inclusive learning including: individual learning styles, support for students with SEND, extension resources/activities for students of higher ability, general resources, including the use of Digital Learning Technology.
  • Contribute to the teaching/learning resource bank for the relevant subject/course.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments in the relevant subject/course.
  • Develop and maintain effective external links related to the delivery of the subject/course and represent the College at relevant meetings.
  • Organise and participate in relevant work experience and offsite visits as required
  • Attend and contribute to relevant meetings, including Enrolment/Open Events and Parents’ Evening, as appropriate.
  • Advise and assist the Head of Curriculum and other team members in all matters related to the delivery of subject specialisms


As our Lecturer in Foundation Studies, you’ll ideally have:

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification in relevant subject area
  •  Appropriate teacher training qualification
  •  Record of continuous professional and career development
  • Experience of high quality teaching to 16-25 year old students with SEND
  •  Experience of delivery of effective pastoral support and the development of Individual learning plans
  •  Able to work collaboratively with colleagues to develop effective course content across the Foundation curriculum offer
  • Able to develop effective learning resources for Entry – Level 1
  • Knowledge of appropriate health and safety requirements
