We are looking for a LED teacher who will bring expertise, confidence and proficiency to our Learning Enhancement Department, assisting with all aspects of learning enhancement throughout the school and providing an excellent provision to support our pupils.

 Description of Role

Reporting to SENCo (HOD); Deputy Head Academic (DHA) and the Academic Leadership Team (ALT).

  • Provide learning support to pupils from 4 – 13 years with a range of neurodiverse needs;
  • Teach individuals or small groups as requested by the Head of LED, and according to their educational needs;
  • Plan and prepare lessons as required, regularly reviewing methods of teaching and programmes of work;
  • Ensure that individual lessons are sufficiently challenging, and enable students to make progress at all points in the lesson;
  • Promote the general progress, well-being and self-esteem of each child, or any group or class assigned to them. Promote a ‘growth’ mindset;
  • Be knowledgeable of the educational needs and LED provision plans of the pupils, and support according to their abilities, strengths and needs;
  • Use information provided by assessments and tracking to inform future teaching and learning;
  • Maintain a stimulating and encouraging teaching style, inspiring students to continue their learning beyond lessons;
  • Ensure that effective use is made of the LED resources and that they are well maintained.

 

Assessment and communication 

  • Make regular observations of children, noting their development against given criteria;
  • Report to the LED on children’s progress, problems or needs after each session;
  • Communicate with and consult parents under guidance of LED HODS, responding positively and professionally to any requests or queries;
  • Participate in regular departmental meetings as required;
  • Assess and record the development, progress and attainment of pupils;
  • Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils;

 

Supervision of pupils 

  • Adhere to the school’s behaviour policy, following set procedures and guidelines in a calm manner.
  • Be aware of individual dietary and medical needs, including allergies, and of the procedures in case of emergency.

 

Safeguarding Responsibilities 

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children;
  • Foster a culture of openness, safety, equality and protection;
  • Provide a safe and welcoming environment where both children and adults feel secure, able to talk and believe that they are being listened to;
  • Play a key role in the prevention of harm and an equal responsibility to act on any suspicion or disclosure that may indicate a child is at risk of harm; 
  • When concerned about the welfare of a pupil, acting in the best interests of the pupil.
