Job overview
Horizons Specialist Academy Trust consists of six academies and one sixth form across the Tees Valley area serving a population of approximately 600 students aged 5 to 19 with a broad range of learning difficulties.
Abbey Hill Academy & Sixth Form is “where amazing children do amazing things!” The academy specialises in meeting the needs of students aged 11 to 19 who have a full range of learning disabilities. The academy provides for approximately 320 young people aged 11 to 19 years who have learning difficulties, as well as other physical and special needs and autism.
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding, creative and enthusiastic teaching assistant to provide BSL support to a named individual as well as other students who have a hearing impairment. Therefore, we are seeking to appoint someone who has the flexibility to work with young people who have a variety of special educational needs. The role involves supporting a named student in the classroom and throughout the secondary school setting - giving attention to their physical as well as educational requirements. Applicants should possess at least a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent, a Level 3 BSL qualification and have GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above.
Although there is an expectation that all our staff will work across the Trust as necessary, this post will be based in our Secondary provision at our Abbey Hill site.
