We have a vacancy for a confident, enthusiastic, suitably qualified and experienced Librarian to manage the Upper School library from September 2019 or earlier if possible. The ideal candidate should have a passion for literature in all its forms and a working knowledge of developments in this area together with a broad knowledge of non-fiction relevant to the School curriculum and the wider world. The candidate should be willing to assist particularly Sixth Formers in their independent research. 

The successful candidate will: 

• be an experienced and qualified librarian

• have a passion for promoting literature and information

• be friendly, flexible and have excellent organisational skills

• have experience line managing staff.

• be able to manage budgets, subscriptions and contracts with suppliers

• have excellent ICT skills and knowledge

• be experienced in using automated library systems and a working knowledge of JSTOR would be useful

• be able to liaise with curriculum leaders to ensure that resources are appropriate to support all areas of the curriculum

• maintain the library as an attractive environment to encourage positive learning experience for all users

The Library houses approximately 20,000 resources, 7 computers, study space for a further 50 users. There is a fully equipped careers library for post 16 and post 18 opportunities. The library’s fiction collection is well-used and reading for pleasure is actively promoted. We run two book groups for Key Stage 4 and Post 16.  We currently organise an annual chess tournament which students and staff take part in across all year groups and is something we would like to continue for years to come. The library is open 8am – 4pm Monday to Friday.

King Edward VII School is a mainstream, state-community, co-educational, non-denominational, secondary school for children aged 11-18. It is situated in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and it has over 1700 pupils on its roll, including over 600 in Sixth Form.

Students say they feel safe in school and behaviour is good; inspection findings confirm this. The vast majority are proud of their school. Attendance has improved and is now above average.
