Reporting to: Head of Operations, Principal.
Responsible for: Library
Main purpose
The librarian will:
Responsible for providing library and research services for all staff and students in the school.
Maintenance of the library and its collections.
Responsibilities
Create a friendly and helpful atmosphere for students and staff.
Ensure an accurate inventory of resources.
Maintain inventories, compile statistics and generate reports as required.
Enter cataloguing data into the library's automated system.
Weed obsolete and worn materials on an ongoing basis, and maintain an up-to-date catalog of collection.
Analyze and evaluate library and information services, technology and media service requirements.
Establish and manage the budget for the library and information services.
Find book suppliers.
Develop and maintain special indexing systems and files for collections.
Maintain collections management system (Orison).
Assist students and staff and respond to daily on-site requests for information.
Selecting, purchasing and processing new materials to assure a current and balanced collection.
Prepare and handout overdue notices and collect replacement costs for lost/damaged items.
Inform students and staff of the arrival of new materials.
Reply to all emails from staff and suppliers.
Prepare for the morning assemble (sound system).
Assist and support during school events.
Keep a record of all books borrowed by staff.
To ensure the cleanliness of the library.
To have knowledge of the fire evacuation procedure.
Arrange book fair event.
Attend meetings when required.
Work with school staff to develop a schedule for effective use of the library (Timetable).
Work with parents, teachers, students, and administrators to enhance learning

Management of staff and resources
Direct and supervise support staff assigned to them, and where appropriate.

Safeguarding
Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education) and our safeguarding and child protection policies.
Work with the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) to promote the best interests of pupils, including sharing concerns where necessary.
Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school at all times.
Other areas of responsibility
Ensure full compliance with all regulations, policies, frameworks mandated by the KHDA, BSO and the UAE Ministry of Education.
Support the leadership team in the preparation and execution of the KHDA inspection process, developing and following post-inspection action plans.
Contribute to the UAE National Agenda success.
Maintain positive and professional communication with all the KHDA and Government Officials and represent the school at all required forums and meetings at the request of the Principal.
Performance Appraisal
The performance of the Librarian will be monitored and assessed round the year.
The Librarian will go through a two stage appraisal process, with the initial appraisals being done by the Head of Operations and reviewed by the Principal of School.
Both the Head of Operations and Principal of School will give their opinions on the desirability of the candidate continuing in the position.
