Key responsibilities


1.    Be present in the library or be present on library duties from 8:00 am – 4:40 pm with 45-minute break for lunch.

2.    Promote reading

3.    Manage the collection and chase up missing or overdue books with reminders to students and staff responsible

4.    Assist students with checking books out and in

5.    Interact with students to promote positive attitudes toward school library

6.    Manage annual book order to maintain and improve the collection and report to Principal for budget approval.

7.    Effectively plan the use of the library and associated resources to meet student needs. The school has its designated half of the library that it is responsible for and the ULC Librarian is responsible for maintaining this in an organized and user-friendly fashion.

8.    Create a library/media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students – NCPA Campus librarian will take any final decisions if needed about whole campus library approaches.

9.    Act as line manager to any librarian assistant appointed by the school.

 

Specific tasks

 

1.    In liaison with the English department, introduce all students to the library with “book speed dating” and similar activities.

2.    Promote and supervise activities and competitions such as “Battle of the Books”.

3.    Encourage students and teachers to recommend new books to purchase for the library.

4.    Promote new books to students in assemblies.

5.    Change the highlighted book display according to the calendar, e.g. Halloween, special celebrations or recognition.

6.    Assist teachers in teaching students how to conduct research and how to correctly reference sources of information

7.    Manage professional book collections.

8.    Manage “outsourced” book collections to different departments.

9.    Manage the booking system for the ULink end of the library and small study rooms.

10. Manage the annual budget – line manager is the Principal for this.

11. Catalogue all new books.

ULink College is a mixed, independent, secondary school with sixth form, for students aged 14 to 19, situated in Guangdong in China. It delivers the IGCSE and A Level programmes, as well as a range of chances for students to participate in team sports and extra-curricular activities.
