About Nord Anglia School Guangzhou, Panyu:

Opened in September 2020, Nord Anglia School Guangzhou, Panyu (NAS Guanghzou, Panyu) will provide a state of the art, world-class learning and teaching environment with a total student capacity of 1,800 and a boarding capacity of 880 for students aged 6-15. Providing a unique blended learning experience, NAS Guanghzou, Panyu will offer students the best of Eastern and Western education resources and philosophies. The bilingual programme will follow a progressive blend of core elements of the Chinese National Curriculum with other renowned international curricula taught through the medium of Mandarin Chinese and English. 

As part of the Nord Anglia Education family of schools, it shares resources and knowledge with 61 other schools around the world. The Global Campus will connect NAS Guangzhou students with other Nord Anglia Education schools based in 28 different countries worldwide. Librarian Job Description:

Teaching and learning: 

 Create and implement a library policy appropriate to the student body 

 Create and implement an action plan to promote the development and use of the library 

 Ensure that we have a consistent approach to borrowing books  

 Look for ways to increase student access to reading materials 

 Promote a greater awareness of excellent authors amongst all stakeholders 

 Provide parents with age specific recommended author booklets  

 Train and manage students to return books to correct shelves 

 Create age appropriate recommended reader brochures and displays  

 Familiarize yourself with children’s fiction/non-fiction 

 Familiarize yourself with student demand and inform line manager of gaps in library resources 

 To organise excellent author displays each half term  

 Promote excellent author sets to Lower School classes and monitor their use 

 Support appropriate academic staff in making library orders 

 Oversee the organisation of the library to ensure all abilities and interests are met 

 Support academic staff in organising author visits or Book Week events 

 Look for opportunities to invite children’s authors, poets and illustrators into school 

 Look for opportunities to involve parents in school reading initiatives 

 Promote the use of ICT in the teaching of reading 

 Teach staff how to use the library system  

 Arrange story time sessions as appropriate in the library - Provide library induction lessons for all new students 

Administrative duties include, but are not restricted to: 

 Photocopying and creating resources in order to support teaching and learning  

 Register books being taken out or returned using library system 

 Register all new students and staff onto the system  

 Supervise children in the library and enforce library rules 

 Chasing up overdue/missing books according to library policy 

 Apply procedures to ensure outstanding books are returned before students leave

 Co-ordinate library resources including author boxes 

 Liaise with the IT/admin team to ensure that new children are added to the system  

 Audit resources annually and provide the appropriate staff with a report 

 Remind staff when books need to be returned and to follow up by speaking to staff 

 Provide SLT with a termly report showing staff with overdue books  

 Ensure that the library is effectively manned during the school day 

 Provide access to appropriately challenging resources for more able readers  

 Promote independent use of the library amongst all students  

 Ensure that teachers are updated on any student borrowing issues 

 Contact parents via email over borrowing issues 

 Ensure students do not borrow books until overdue books are returned 

 Ensure that electronic devices are used appropriately and to put in place policies and procedures to prevent loss or theft of iPads  

 Liaise with Reading & Library Coordinator to arrange book orders 

 Ensure up-to-date book catalogues are made available to teachers 

 Dispatch orders to suppliers and track deliveries as necessary 

 Promote local GUANGZHOU book suppliers to overseas staff 

 Arrange for payment and invoices with finance office 

 Organise cataloguing, stamping and covering of books as required 

 To liaise with IT to ensure repairs to iPads etc are made promptly  

 Create and maintain displays in and around the library

Overall support for the school

 Fully support the aims and ethos of the school 

 Support fellow professionals

 Attend team and staff meetings where necessary 

 Follow agreed policies and procedures 

 Work to maintain positive relationships with parents and the local community 

 Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety  

 Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance 

 Attend relevant training activities where required 

 Where required, to assist with the supervision of pupils outside lesson times  

 Where required, to support the admin team for other tasks
