Job overview

Due to our current Librarian relocating, we are seeking an enthusiastic, organised, and reader‑focused Librarian to manage, promote, and develop our school library and to foster a lifelong love of reading among pupils.  This role is Monday to Thursday 9.30am – 2.30pm term time only plus two days at the start/end of each term.

This is a key role within the academic life of the school and offers the opportunity to work closely with teaching staff, particularly the English Department, in a busy and vibrant prep school environment.

Reporting to the Head of English, the Librarian will be responsible for the day‑to‑day running of the library and for ensuring that it is a welcoming, safe, and inspiring space that supports both learning and reading for pleasure.

The Librarian will be expected to contribute to the wider life of the school, including attending staff meetings, training days, open events, and school activities, and to uphold and promote the ethos and values of Ludgrove School at all times.

In return, we offer a generous salary, pension scheme, first-class resources and the very best facilities for teaching and learning.

Further details of the school may be found on our website: ludgrove.net

Closing date: 12 noon on Tuesday 5th May 2026.

We reserve the right to close the advert and interview early.

We believe that a diverse staff body reflects and supports the diversity of our students and wider society. We are an equal opportunity employer and in recruiting for our team, we welcome the unique contributions that you can bring.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. All offers of employment are subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks including an Enhanced DBS check.

Ludgrove is a thriving fortnightly boarding school for boys age 8 to 13, which sits in 130 acres of spectacular grounds and it is a magical place to spend five years of childhood. I feel privileged to be the Headmaster and together with my wife Sophie endeavour to lead the Ludgrove community pastorally and academically. We believe our homely environment provides a wonderful place where boys flourish and realise their potential.

As a school, we are unashamedly ambitious for every boy and are proud of our strong academic record. The boys have a wealth of opportunities: a stimulating curriculum, exceptional facilities and a vibrant extracurricular programme with exposure to music, drama, sport and art. We aim to develop the boys’ confidence in a caring supportive environment, where they are valued as individuals and learn to live as a community. Friendships are made for life and the unique Ludgrove spirit allows boys to thrive in an atmosphere of high achievement, happiness, good manners and kindness.

My family and I feel lucky to live and work in beautiful surroundings with such a talented and committed staff, happy boys and supportive parents. The website can only give you a flavour of life at Ludgrove, so do please come and see us.
