Job overview

If you are highly organised and offer good customer service and administrative skills, this position offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the school library at St. Edward’s.

As Library & Archives Assistant, you will support both the running of the library and the development and upkeep of its archives and collections.

The School Library serves the entire school community, not just in supplying books but in helping pupils access online resources for research projects. The school archive holds historical documents dating back to the opening of the school in 1863 and the school aims to preserve and increase this material for use by pupils, teachers and other interested parties.

This is a customer focused role which includes lots of opportunity for growth and development and demands an enthusiastic and energetic individual who would enjoy running events, talking with pupils, teachers and visitors to the library.

Whilst previous experience is a bonus, it is not essential. Enthusiasm, a willingness to help others and a high level of attention to detail are valued. Full and on-going training will be given.

You will also be trained in the use of the multiple database systems and health and safety procedures.

Ideally, you will enjoy discussing literature with pupils and will have a keen interest in history. You will also be encouraged to deliver book talks to pupils on occasion and get involved, especially in lessons which make use of archival resources.

In return, St. Edward’s can offer a variety of benefits including:

  • A friendly and inclusive working environment
  • Free meals
  • Free Nuffield Health Gym membership (including membership for your partner and children under the age of 21)
  • Free car parking
  • Defined contribution pension scheme with Scottish Widows. The standard employee contribution rate is 5% with the employer contributing 8%. From 1st September 2022, enhanced contributions by the employee will be matched by the employer, up to the cap of 12%
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Employee assistance programme

The closing date for applications is 20th October 2022.

St Edward’s is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and the successful applicant will be required to apply for a DBS disclosure.
