We are seeking candidates for the following position:

  • Library Assistant


LIBRARY ASSISTANT ROLE

  • You will display an understanding of the work of a library with experience and knowledge in the use of technology
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with a Library Operating system (OLIVER preferred) would be favourable but not essential
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to exercise judgement and initiative in the delivery of services to need.
  • Ability to provide effective client services within a school community library context.

 

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Respond to enquiries from staff, students, parents, and the public and address issues in accordance with routines, methods and procedures
  • Receive and deal with initial requests for information from library clients
  • Process basic circulation transactions such as issues and returns
  • Perform a range of general duties at a basic level, for example, book covering, minor book repairs, photocopying and shelving
  • Under the supervision of the Teacher Librarian, assist in the supervision of students in the library
  • Catalogue new acquisitions directly through library computer system and via SCIS.
  • Laminate and/or bind requests from different departments
  • Escalate complex library and library user issues for consideration by the Teacher Librarian
  • Generate and provide routine library resources usage reports for discussion and review with the Resource Manager on possible changes and improvements
  • Create and coordinate library displays to school needs and programs under the guidance of the Teacher Librarian

Total Paid Hours (per week) & days required: Library Assistant- 12 hours over 3 days, working hours negotiable.

Salary level, range or hourly rate: School Officer Level 3 - $30.97 per hour
