Library Assistant | Secondary school | Deira International school

Role Purpose: 

To support the literacy learning of the students and acquire, organize, manage and distribute library resources to ensure that library provision meets the needs of all its users

Key Responsibilities: 

Provide the school community convenient and effective access to high quality print and electronic information resources

Select, develop, catalogue and classify library resources

Purchase teacher resources and develop an area in the library for them

Liaise with departmental academic staff, external organisations and suppliers

Liaise closely with each department to teach and extend student research skills

Ensure that library services meet the needs of all its users and supports independent research and learning along with the classroom curriculum

Develop and administer the school libraries budget

Coordinate and schedule use of the library for book fair, author visits and other events

Maintain a welcoming, positive and innovative learning environment

To ensure a progressive and age appropriate library curriculum is provided for all students 

To ensure effective learning within library lessons

Lead reading initiatives across the school in collaboration with the other school librarian

About the person:

Education: Degree in library science/ library-media certification, or teaching degree with library experience

Minimum Experience and Knowledge:  Minimum two years of teaching experience in a library or related setting preferred

 Weeding & Inventory management

 Research skills

 IT skills and familiarity with the use of databases and the internet

 Assessment of resources and library users needs

 Passion for reading and books

 Organizational skills
