History & Ethos

Our College mission is 'learning together in a vibrant community where every individual is supported to achieve their potential' - learning is at the heart of what we do and we place huge emphasis on staff development and inspiring our staff to constantly reflect and develop.  The College provides an outstanding education to around 2,500, 16-19 year old students on over 40 different courses at A Level, BTEC and GCSE and enjoys an excellent reputation both locally and nationally.  Students make excellent progress and achieve outstanding results whilst at college but also feel prepared for their future and are more likely to gain a better class degree than those from other educational sectors and sixth form colleges.

The College was rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted at our inspection in November 2024.

Location

Godalming is a historic market town situated on the River Wey and close to the beautiful countryside of the Surrey Hills. The college is within walking distance of Godalming Town Centre and the Railway station which serves the main London-Portsmouth line.  Godalming is readily accessed from the A3 and free car-parking, and EV chargers, are available to staff on the college campus.

College Leadership Team & Staff

The Principal Emma Young is supported by the Senior Leadership Team.  The College employs around 250 teaching and support staff, on both a full and part-time basis, who are committed to supporting students to achieve their goals through a broad mix of programmes and extra-curricular activities. As well as our academic success we are also proud of the welcoming and collaborative environment at the college and a few comments from our Autumn 2024 staff survey show that our staff feel the same.

'The sense of community, common purpose, and kindness to each other. The willingness to help each other, support each other and look after each other. We are proud to be continually improving - which is a signature of Godalming College.

'Working every day supporting amazing young people, having kind and compassionate colleagues and making progress and learning for my own professional development.'

Facilities

Our campus is now second-to-none in offering modern, attractive, stimulating spaces in which to work and learn. We are constantly maintaining and upgrading facilities and have invested £15 million in new buildings in recent years. We have invested substantially in developing high quality IT and award winning online infrastructure, which means that student learning is supported by the best that technology can offer.

CPD

We understand that our success comes from developing our staff and supporting them to deliver innovative and individualised lessons.  We dedicate significant resource and time to ensure all staff feel supported and developed in order to carry out their role to the best of their ability. We have a comprehensive INSET programme each year where time is dedicated to staff training. Godalming, along with other sixth form colleges in Surrey & Sussex belongs to a consortium known as S7 who work closely together to provide tailored training and development for staff and facilitate meetings for specific groups and an annual conferences.
