Options West London Community College is a well-established, independent living and life skills provision for adults with autism. We offer individualised programmes which are designed to meet the complex needs of each of our students, as well as increase their sense of personal independence. We are within commuting distance of Uxbridge, Wembley, Longford, Slough, Hounslow and surrounding towns.

Options Autism is a national provider of specialist education, care and therapeutic services for children, young people and adults with autism, complex needs and learning difficulties. We provide a person-centred approach to education and care, looking at the full needs of the individual and adapting our approach accordingly.


Job Summary and Duties

Students take part in a range of classroom-based activities to assist with independent learning and also have access to community events. The role of Assistant Vocational Training Officer (TA), works with individual students or small groups to supervise their wellbeing and welfare whilst supporting and accessing learning.

This permanent role works 46 weeks per year to cover our college calendar, working 8.30am – 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.

The role would suit someone with previous experience within a care/FE/school setting or someone with an interest in autism and looking for an opportunity for a change in career.


Following a thorough induction, the duties would include:

  • Supervising and supporting students within the college and classroom environment, across a range of activities and subjects to include life skills and communication
  • Providing personal care and support on a day to day basis when needed
  • Supporting the trainer in managing student behaviour which can often be challenging
  • Liaising closely with family members and key external agencies, providing regular feedback
  • Prepare classroom resources to support the trainer in readiness for student participation


Key Skills Required

  • Hold or be willing to work towards Adult Education Teaching qualification (AET) and Care Certificate
  • Have experience of or be willing to work within an SEN setting supporting students (age 16+) with autism
  • Confident communication skills with the ability to relate well to students and adults
  • Flexible with the willingness to adapt your style to suit individual students
  • Strong IT, and clear and concise written skills for record keeping purposes
