JOB PURPOSE:

  To ensure high quality curriculum provision and effective teaching and learning within the curriculum area. To carry out the professional duties of a qualified teacher in accordance with the Teachers’ pay and conditions.

SPECIFIC TASKS RELATED TO JOB PURPOSE:

• To be an active Reading Champion, promoting a ‘Love of Literacy’ within the Academy and the wider community. 

• To liaise with the English department to enable access and support during lessons. 

• Monitor and maintain the Reading Plus programme and the use of EPlatform within the Academy and share the results with the Head of Faculty for English.

• To assist in the planning and oversight of the general organisation and day-to-day running of the library both physical and electronic.

• Collaborate as part of the Middle Leadership Team to drive the journey of rapid and sustained improvement. 

• Provide strategic leadership for reading, writing, vocabulary and oracy throughout the Academy.

• Embed a culture, built on a love of reading, through the implementation and refinement of our Advisory time reading programme. 

• Lead assessment strategies that track reading ages and use the data and trends to inform the strategic direction of initiatives. 

• Refine our reading strategy to ensure that students, across all year groups, are engrossed in books that will further define them as avid readers. 

• Work alongside the SENCO to ensure that all students are supported to read, write and speak with fluency and purpose.

• In conjunction with the Deputy Principal (Quality of Education), monitor, review and continuously improve the quality of teaching and learning by raising the profile of reading and writing. 

• Improve student outcomes by increasing students’ ability to access, process, comprehend and respond to the curriculum. 

• Review departmental and faculty practices and support leaders to implement Academy-wide initiatives that drive their team`s performance as directed by the Deputy Principal (Quality of Education). 

• Implement and refine an effective strategy that improves every student’s ability to read well, write well and speak well. 

• Lead whole academy CPD that empowers teachers and support staff to make all students better readers, writers and speakers. 

• Promote teamwork and motivate staff to ensure effective working relations. 

• Ensure staff development needs are identified and appropriate programmes are designed to meet these needs

Other Duties

• The post holder will be subject to performance objectives agreed annually. 

• The post holder is expected to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Principal.

• To take on any whole school initiative or responsibility that the Principal may direct.

• The duties of this post may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the post or level of responsibility entailed.

This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.
