We seek to appoint an ambitious and enthusiastic Literacy Assistant who shares our belief that reading and literacy are an essential part of a pupil’s future success.

This post would suit an English Graduate or a current Teaching Assistant with experience of running literacy programmes. You will be passionate about language and literature, and have the ability to enthuse and inspire students to become life-long readers.

We are a World Class School, hold Beacon School status and work in effective partnership with several organisations including City in Excellence in Teaching and East London Teaching School Alliance. With state of the art buildings and facilities and a team of innovative, experienced and dedicated professional staff, Bishop Challoner is an exciting and supportive environment in which to work and develop your career.

As Britain’s first federated school, our campus embraces two schools, Boys’ and Girls’ with a co-ed Sixth Form. The school has 1254 students on roll, including 189 in the Sixth Form. We are proud of our success, OFSTED has quoted “In this high performing school, students make rapid progress and reach high standards in many subjects” and “Leaders and managers at all levels, provide the drive and ambition needed to ensure that this wonderful school continually improves”.

This is a fantastic opportunity for literacy specialists. You do not need to be a practising Catholic to apply.

We Offer:

  • A strong commitment to your professional development and career management
  • An opportunity to be part of an enthusiastic and creative team
  • A supportive environment in which your enthusiasm will be encouraged, nurtured and rewarded
  • A working environment focused on Teaching and Learning and raising standards for all
  • A positive and stimulating school climate which values the contribution of all staff

You will be required to:

  • Deliver literacy intervention programmes to identified students
  • Support the Literacy Coordinator in delivering literacy faculty initiatives and agreed literacy intervention programmes
  • Work with teachers to establish an appropriate learning environment and maximise effective literacy teaching practice
  • Work both in and outside the classroom with individuals, small groups and whole classes of students
  • Ensure that parents/carers are aware of their child’s learning needs; interventions offered, and how best to support their child
