Job overview

Hall Mead School is seeking a highly competent teacher of literacy to teach and lead on a bespoke literacy programme for small groups of Key Stage 3 students who are in need of additional literacy teaching in order to address gaps in skills and/or knowledge that are inhibiting their wider learning. The successful candidate will have a good understanding and knowledge of teaching literacy either in a secondary or primary setting and have good classroom management skills.

There is also a leadership opportunity for someone who will lead the development of the literacy courses and manage staff who support and/or teach on the courses, developing resources and strategies to enable students' progress in literacy.

In addition, the successful candidate will take responsibility for the co-ordination, monitoring and review of School Support students within the SEN department.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone wishing to develop a leadership career in SEND and we will offer the opportunity to be funded and released in order to undertake the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination if that is of interest.

The Learning Support Department at Hall Mead is a very large department with nearly 70 EHC Plans. It has a suite of rooms in the "Personal Learning Centre", accommodating an Additionally Resourced Provision for Autisic Students, Nurture Groups for vulnerable students and bespoke GCSE provision. It also has a Life Skills flat.

The department has a very strong, supportive, friendly team of specialist teachers allowing it to offer a very broad and creative curriculum, including Art, Music, Horticulture and Animal Therapy. It is a challenging, creative and rewarding environment where students are treated as individuals and are supported to flourish.
