Part-Time Literacy Tutor 

2/3 days per week

Teaching scale UQ – UPS3 depending on experience

We are seeking an enthusiastic, well-qualified individual to support small groups of Years 7 – 11 students with literacy, with a predominant focus on improving reading ability. Initially, the role will end in July 2023 but there is a possibility it may be extended.

This position may suit a qualified teacher, a retired teacher, a graduate looking for teaching experience or an experienced tutor. The school can provide resources and training, as necessary.

The main duties and responsibilities of this role are outlined, although this list is not exhaustive:

·        Planning and delivering tutoring sessions in literacy (reading) for small groups or on a one to one basis (any experience of using the Accelerated Reading Program will be an advantage)

·        Working closely with the SENDCO, Head of Year and English Department to ensure tutoring content enhances the reading skills of students and encourage growth. 

·        Assessing student progress

·        Providing feedback on student progress

A successful candidate with QTS will be paid on the Main Pay Scale or Upper Pay Scale, as appropriate.

Applicants without QTS are welcome to apply and will be paid on the unqualified teacher scale and required to undertake additional training.

Watford Grammar School for Boys is an academy with over 1400 students, including over 400 in the sixth form. From its origins as a charity school for 60 pupils founded by Dame Elizabeth Fuller in 1704, the boys’ school moved to its present site in 1912 and became an Academy in 2010. Located next to the centre of Watford, near Cassiobury Park, it comprises of a Grade II listed building, The Clarendon Muse, The James Theatre, a dedicated STEM Centre and extensive sports facilities.
