Job overview

Our Multi Academy Company (MAC) was formed in September 2013 with just one secondary school and two primary schools. Over the past 10 years, we have grown to two secondary schools and six primary schools, educating over 3000 pupils aged 3-18 years. Our MAC footprint sits across the local authorities of Dudley, Sandwell, Birmingham and Walsall, all serving wonderfully diverse and vibrant communities.

Significant work has been done to create a strong and coherent MAC infrastructure and we are continuing to work in this area. Previously, each school has taken a different approach to the management of its IT Provision and how they use technology as a learning tool. We have recently instructed full audits of each school to assess their current infrastructure and provision with the view to creating more streamlined and robust systems to move our schools forward. This is a really exciting time to be part of St John Bosco Catholic Academy.

Our MAC is very much at the beginning of its digital journey. Our schools are eager to work together to find the best digital learning solutions and therefore it is vital that we are able to communicate effectively across the whole MAC using appropriate platforms. Building the infrastructure to support this is the critical first step in enabling technology to make lives better across all of the schools within our MAC family. In addition to supporting our schools, the successful candidate will therefore play a key role helping the Central Network Manager develop our ICT strategy and service.

The role will evolve with the MAC. The role will be primarily based within one of our Secondary Schools where you will act as the IT lead supported by a shared apprentice. The purpose of the role us to provide a proactive and reactive service within the school, to ensure that day to day, the IT networks and provision are maintained effectively and efficiently – as well as to assist in the provision of specialist IT support services for students, staff and delivery of the curriculum. The successful candidate will report to, and also work with, the Central Network Manager.

As the Local Network Manager you will also have oversight on a local cluster of primary schools and their Local Network Technician, providing support, guidance and line management where necessary. You will also oversee the helpdesk for the cluster, ensuring work is correctly assigned and responded to appropriately. You will have one-day per week reserved as management time to ensure you are able to fulfil the duties required for the local network.
