Location: Home based with travel to schools across London and Ark Schools central office

Contract: Permanent

Pattern: Term time only plus 2 weeks (flexible hours across five days a week which will include occasional evening hours, 41 weeks in total per year)

About the role:

An exciting opportunity to oversee local governing body (LGB) delivery, governor recruitment and training, and governor panels for Ark’s schools based in London, including ensuring a smooth process of agenda-setting and LGB meeting management throughout the academic year. You will provide strategic support to the LGB and Chairs, and deliver high-quality governor recruitment, training, and board evaluation to support the strategic development of schools’ LGBs. You will line manage two clerks and ensure high-quality governor panels for exclusions and complaints through the organisation of panel paperwork, governor participation and clerking panel hearings, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations. 


Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • To line manage two clerks and ensure high quality delivery of all aspects of clerking service for schools across London
  • To liaise closely with other Regional Officers in the Ark Network to provide a consistently high standard of clerking and governor support to all Ark schools
  • To undertake recruitment of new governors in line with the overall Ark Schools approach, and undertake all aspects of governor appointment, record-keeping, and membership monitoring for London LGBs
  • To co-ordinate and deliver London-based governor induction and training, online and in-person, aligned with the Ark Schools Governor Development Programme
  • Coordinate Exclusions panel support for schools in your region, including logistics, securing panellists, clerking panel hearings, writing accurate minutes and drafting comprehensive decision letters and planning for Independent Review Panels where necessary
  • To attend Governance Team meetings (6 p/year - 3 online and 3 in-person at the London Central office)

 

Key Requirements:

  • Experience of governance in a school, charity, or corporate environment
  • Experience of complex meeting management and minute taking
  • Experience of stakeholder relationship management
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills – able to foster relationships
  • Adaptable, organised, detail-oriented and systematic in approach to work
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal remote supervision
  • Travel will occasionally be required to other regions in which Ark Schools works – Birmingham, Hastings, and Portsmouth - for meetings, panel clerking cover or training
