Lunchtime Supervisor – Ark Priory Primary Academy

Ark Priory Academy is a two form entry primary school situated in Acton.  This is a great opportunity for a Lunchtime Supervisor to join our growing team and 

in-house catering team.  The post holder will work with the pupils through lunch breaks, helping them whilst eating their lunch and ensuring health and safety of children is maintained at all times. They will also supervise behaviour and lead playground activities, including supervising play inside the classroom in the event of bad weather.  In addition, they will provide first aid cover over the lunchtime period.

Reporting to:  Kitchen Manager

Hours:           15 hours per week, term time only (39 weeks per year)                               11.00 am to 2 pm daily

Salary:  £20, 002.00 PRO RATA (Band 2.6)

The Academy

We are committed to healthy eating and we expect all pupils to eat a hot school lunch which is prepared on site everyday by our in-house chef and catering team. All meals are low in sugar, fat and salt and are rotated on a three weekly basis. We operate a family dining system at lunchtime and it is an important part of our day when we all sit down together, serve our friends and helpers and enjoy a healthy and tasty lunch. 

The Role

The Lunchtime Supervisors will ensure that tables are laid out with utensils in readiness for the arrival of pupils for lunch.  Between sittings, tables will require cleaning and re-setting, which requires working at pace and a high degree of cleanliness.  The role also involves ensuring the hall is cleared and ready for our afternoon sessions.  The post holder will supervise pupils over the lunchtime period, directing them to the tables, supporting them to use their knives and forks and use good table manners whilst ensuring the health and safety of children is maintained at all times and lunch breaks are positive, well managed experiences. The post holder will supervise behaviour and encourage playground activities, including supervising play inside the classrooms in the event of bad weather.  In addition they will provide first aid cover over the lunch time period.

Key responsibilities

• To supervise pupil movement to ensure all have access to midday meals provision at the correct time and in the correct place

• To lay table settings for lunchtime and ensure tables are prepared for multiple lunch sessions

• To interact with pupils to maintain good order and courteous behaviour

• To observe pupil behaviour and intervene when inappropriate behaviour compromises the safety of students

• To ensure pupils keep their eating area clean and tidy

• Work within a small team ensuring the hall is clean and tidy at the end of lunchtime

• As part of a team, manage supervision of pupils in the playground

• To engage the children in fun learning and play activities

Other

• To undertake various other responsibilities as directed by the line manager

• To undertake the main professional duties of a Midday Supervisor as set out in the Ark pay and conditions of service document

Person Specification: Lunchtime Supervisor

Qualification Criteria 

• Right to work in the UK

• Food hygiene/safety certification desirable

• First Aid qualification (or willingness to undergo training)

Experience

• Experience of supervising children at the appropriate age range

• Ideally have experience in a similar role within a school or the education sector

• Experience of the role of play worker and organisation of games 

Personal characteristics

• Able to use initiative and imagination to devise games and play activities for children

• Highly organised and efficient; capable of multi-tasking and working at pace

• Helpful and positive nature, calm and caring

• Positive commitment to student achievement and staff development

• Genuine passion and a belief in the potential of every pupil

Specific skills

• Able to help implement the necessary routines and patterns to establish good behaviour management within the school

• Able to contribute to overall school behaviour records and provide feedback

• Ability to deal with minor incidents, first aid, and the personal health and hygiene of pupils

• Ability to work in a team 

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Ability to work within tight deadlines and keep both positive and calm
