Hurst Lodge School, is an independent special school, dedicated to supporting children aged 7–19 years who have a range of additional needs. We are seeking to employ an experienced Maintenance Assistant for our Woodlands campus in Crowthorne. This is a small site with 30 students. The role will involve supporting the effective running of the school building as part of the maintenance team, to carry out tasks specified by the Facilities Manager and Bursar.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

General maintenance tasks, including but not limited to minor repairs and other general internal and external maintenance tasks around the building and grounds.

Arrange lunchtime dining areas, moving tables and chairs.

Empty bins both inside and outside, litter pick and generally keeping the areas safe and tidy.

Carry out gate duty in the mornings and afternoons to ensure the smooth arrival and departure of parents and staff.

Ensure the school in unlocked in the morning and suitably secured in the afternoon before departing.

Supporting the school in providing an atmosphere where effective learning can take place.

Support the promotion of positive relationships with families and other outside agencies. Working within school policies and procedures. Attend training as required including inset days as requested. Care for your own and others health and safety.

Person Specification:

Experience & Skills: Previous experience working within a maintenance role is essential, including knowledge of health and safety and the use of related maintenance equipment.

Personal Qualities: Practical skills and a can-do attitude. A positive outlook and a calm and patience personality. A team player able to establish working relationships with adults and children

Other Responsibilities:

Safety & Wellbeing / Safeguarding:  Promote the safety and wellbeing of students, and help to safeguard students’ wellbeing by following the requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and our school’s child protection policy

Professional Development: Help keep own knowledge and understanding relevant and up to date by reflecting on their own practice, liaising with school leaders, and identifying relevant professional development to improve personal effectiveness. Take opportunities to build the appropriate skills, qualifications, and/or experience needed for the role, with support from the school
