Quay View School is recruiting for a Maintenance Assistant to join their maintenance team. We are looking for a passionate handyperson and an enthusiastic DIYer, who will carry out reactive day-to-day maintenance issues within the site and their grounds.  You will also assist in supporting our other homes in the community, liaising with contractors when on site and ad-hoc requests from management as and when necessary.

A Maintenance Assistance is required to help carry out the reactive day to day maintenance issues within the schools/residential homes and their grounds, liaise with contractors when on site and ad-hoc requests from management as and when necessary.

We are looking for a individual with self motivation and the ability to work with the minimum of supervision, have a flexible approach and the ability to prioritise and respond to the changing needs of the homes and schools.

An understanding of the working environment and of young people with special education needs including Autism and BESD would be an advantage but not a requirement. 

It is essential that you have a full and clean driving licence including your own transport.

Aspris Children's Services specialises in high quality residential and educational provisions for children between 7-18 who may have SEMH and /or Autism. The safeguarding and wellbeing of our young people who may have experienced challenges in their lives is always paramount; along with encouragement to achieve their full potential. Aspris Children's Services currently have two educational settings, Quay View School and Tor View School, and four Children's Homes in Tavistock, Gunnislake and Okehampton.

Ideally, you will have experience in some of the following areas: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plastering (qualifications are not essential) along with the following characteristics:

Communication – During your role your working environment may involve interacting with our young people we support that may display varying degrees of emotional behavioural difficulties, autism, ADHD and associated difficulties

Organisation – As well as supervising the staff team, you’ll need to be confident and organised in record keeping, ensuring issues are logged on the internal computer systems and keeping up to date with routine maintenance checks.

Attentive – No two jobs will be the same so being attentive to understand them and identify areas where we can support is important.

At Southern Peninsula Services, we offer bespoke placements for young people (boys and girls) aged 7 to 19 years who have complex needs including SEBD, ASD and other learning disabilities.

In liaison with the commissioning LA’s and parents, we are able to make clear decisions about the educational and care programmes that best meet the individual needs of the young person. Our programmes are also supported by on-site therapy services, where necessary.
