Location:        Meadowcroft – The Hub, Wakefield, West Yorkshire

Salary:       £23,500 per annum 

Hours:            42.5 hours per week

Contract:        Permanent

The Role

We are looking for a Maintenance Technician to join our outstanding team at Meadowcroft - The Hub in Wakefield. You will have experience of basic maintenance and repair work including painting, decorating and gardening. It is important you are comfortable working in a special educational needs environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • To respond effectively to all urgent maintenance and repair tasks as they arise
  • To undertake general repairs and maintenance around the site, inside and out, including plastering, basic joinery, decorating, repairs on furnishings and buildings, including woodwork, and gardening etc. to ensure a safe and well cared for environment is maintained
  • Maintain security of the site i.e. opening and closing of the premises in line with agreed opening and closing procedures. Liaise with the alarm company as and when required
  • Be a key member of emergency and fire marshal group undertaking training as and when necessary
  • Undertake regular periodic checks including asbestos visual check, weekly fire alarm call point tests, water temperature tests, first aid box checks, ,emergency lighting tests, fire door checks, operation of fire exits, fire extinguisher tests, ladder checks, equipment condition checks
  • To ensure that all equipment and materials are used in accordance with Health & Safety guidelines
  • To ensure that company tools and equipment are kept in good order and propose solutions to repair any faulty tools or equipment to the appropriate manager
  • Perform basic maintenance on the school vehicles so that they are in good order and the correct number of vehicles are available for use when required by the school

Essential Skills and Competencies

  • A full clean driving licence
  • Experience of basic housekeeping, repair work and upkeep of a large site
  • Ability to use basic tools and power tools
  • Ability to work under own initiative on occasion
  • Understanding of the challenges of working in a special educational needs environment

Meadowcroft is an independent specialist day school for boys and girls aged from 5 to 19, catering for children with a wide range of needs in 3 sites across Wakefield. Meadowcroft School is a unique special educational needs provision dedicated to ensuring successful outcomes for the most reluctant & troubled learners. The dedicated staff team work tirelessly with pupils who arrive with a distorted view of education and life.

At The Gallery, small class sizes at the specialist primary provision work in conjunction with the dedicated unit for pupils with more complex needs. As well as its classrooms, pupils are offered appropriate practical life skill lessons in a simulated home setting.
