Job overview

MANDARIN EARLY YEARS TEACHING PRACTITIONER
A dual language English-Chinese school is opening its doors to nursery age children in September 2017 in a new purpose-built site in Kensington.
We are looking for a mandarin early years teaching practitioner to work with the teacher of a small class of 3 to 5 year olds on a full-time basis from September 2017.
Candidates absolutely must be fluent speakers and writers of Mandarin (普通话 / 国语) as they will be expected to assist in our early years curriculum in Mandarin and deliver it to the children in that language. Candidates who do not have high level fluency in Mandarin will not be considered.

Qualifications Required
EYFS Level 6 (or above) or Chinese equivalent.
Degrees in early years education will be hugely advantageous to candidates. Please note that before starting we will ask you to ensure that any overseas qualifications are verified by UK NARIC.
The successful applicant will:
 - together with the teacher play a crucial role in devising and developing the bilingual and bicultural curriculum, as well as activities for 3 - 5 year olds to help children become aware of China's history, culture and values as well as its language.
 - working with the teacher to ensure that all the children’s needs are met during the day through the delivery of high quality daily observations.
 - work together with the English teacher and assistant to plan and deliver a seamless curriculum.
This is an exciting post, which will suit someone with energy, creativity and a sense of academic adventure.

Please fill out the application form and send us your complete CV with the names and contact numbers of two referees, who will not be contacted before interview, together with a brief covering letter stating why you think you would suit the position.

Kensington Wade is a dual-language English-Chinese preparatory school that is due to open in West London in spring 2017. The mixed, independent school will be situated on the corner of Kensington High Street and Warwick Road, in a brand new, state-of the-art building, and will cater for 200 children.

Kensington Wade is named after a 19th-century British minister to China, Sir Thomas Wade, who spent 40 years in the country and later became the first professor of Chinese at Cambridge University. The school will be the first of its kind in Western Europe. It will prepare its pupils for the very best secondary schools, and instil in them a drive for academic excellence balanced with high cultural empathy.

Headmistress

Laura Marani

Values and vision

Kensington Wade will prepare its pupils for demanding English independent schools by not only teaching an appropriate curriculum, but also equipping them to communicate in written and spoken Chinese. All instruction will be delivered in both English and Chinese, while pupils will also benefit from a dual cultural approach.

Headmistress Laura Marani says: “The most effective way to learn a language is to absorb it naturally, with the equal exposure of two languages.” Pupils will gain not only knowledge, but the skills to use it in society. They will learn the fundamentals of language, mathematics and science, and also how to behave, cooperate, learn and take action.

Kensington Wade believes good behaviour and discipline are the key foundations of learning. The preparatory school will encourage courtesy, integrity, good manners and a respect for the needs of others.
